Anticipation

As my due date draws near, I definitely feel more emotional. Yes, there are more "hormonal" days lately (just ask my husband), but thankfully I hardly had any moodiness most of this pregnancy, so I think we'll survive these last few weeks. :)

But what I'm really referring to is the joyful, weepy anticipation I have been experiencing. The moments when I feel him move and realize he will be in my arms very soon, Lord willing. The moments I see a baby or birth scene on TV or in a movie and I bawl...because soon I will have my son.

The epitome of this was this past Sunday at church. As we sang the first song, another couple entered the sanctuary with their newborn. Her due date was only 3-ish weeks ahead of me, and in my mind I always thought once they had their little one we were next. And here they were, carrying her in her car seat. We're next. Almost immediately after seeing them, I cried. I didn't just get misty eyed - I had to wipe the tears from my face.

Tears of joy, anticipation, and extreme thankfulness.

{37 weeks}

37 weeks

37 weeks - I can't tell by looking that I dropped?
36 weeks
Size of baby: swiss chard (approx. 19.25" and 6.3 lbs.)

Total Weight Gain: +33 lbs
Continuing symptoms: slight nose congestion, back ache if I stand too long, acid reflux, aches, pains, and discomforts (especially while sleeping), infrequent but increasing Braxton hicks (still not too many this week though), charlie horse leg cramps at night, really tired, frequent urination, stretch marks, snoring, skin tags
New symptoms this week: Since he's dropped I do feel like my belly touches my lap when I lean forward :) I also generally feel HOT.
Maternity Clothes: I literally alternated between my two maxi dresses this week!

Sleep: Not too bad this week. When I wake up to go to the bathroom or anything, I feel like an old lady because I am so stiff and it is a challenge to get out of bed!
What I'm Eating: My appetite feels relatively normal.
Cravings: Snack size McFlurry's from McDonalds
Movement: His movements are less punches and kicks and more like he is stretching out which presses out on my belly - like he's trying to bust out of there through my skin.

Special pregnancy moments:  Full term!!!! This boy can come any time now, whoo-hoo!

Not exactly pregnancy related, but we finished up with our youth group kids this week. We have been with them since they were going to into seventh grade, and they are graduating high school in two weeks! So we had our last small groups, youth Sunday at church, and the senior dinner over the last week, and it was a very special and bittersweet time. I am so thankful and excited that as we end that phase of our lives, we will be transitioning to a new season of parenthood!

I have also been getting a lot of interesting comments from strangers and people at church. One lady insisted I was having twins and another said I was so big she thought I was due any day. One friend said she is sure I won't make it to my due date, while another had us make dinner plans for 5 days before my due date because "of course you'll go past your due date." Haha! Obviously we told her we'll be at the dinner as long as we're not having a baby...

Counting down: 0 weeks until full term (!!), 3 weeks until my due date, and 5 weeks (at most) until this boy is in my arms!

Nursery Tour!!

View from the doorway into the room. The bunting on the wall has messages from everybody who attended my shower written on the back, and my friend sewed that for me - so special! Another friend is letting us borrow the swing, and we already had the Ikea Poang chair. The little yellow chair was my mother in laws when she was a little girl, and then she passed it on to my husband when he was a little boy , and now she repainted it for our son! The wall sconce lamp is from Pottery Barn but the shade is from Ross.

The crib, mobile, and wall art. The quilt was made for us by my husband's aunt.
The view straight into the room.

Closet with curtains (sewn for me by a friend). A friend is letting us borrow the Moses basket.

Dresser/ changing table from Ikea.

Bookshelves from Ikea. One of the books is not like the others....and is my husband's contribution to our son's reading material :)

Shelves for toys, pacifiers, books, etc along with hamper, diaper basket, and trash can.

Love this print! From Etsy seller The Wheatfield.

Inspiration for the whole room! Also from The Wheatfield.

My husband's teddy bear from when he was a baby :)

Close up of the mobile from The Land of Nod.

A peak into the top drawer with diapers, burp cloths, bibs, baby care items, socks, and hats! Drawer dividers are from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
Second drawer with onesies, shirts, pants, and sleepers. I know it's a lot, but I do have newborn and 0-3 months in there...and I got a huge box of hand me downs in the 0-3 month size....and I bought a few things....and we have received some adorable gifts... :)

Bottom drawer with shoes, sheets, and blankets.

36 week OB appointment

So thankful for another great appointment! I admit I was a little disappointed I didn't land in the ultrasound room since I was really hoping to know for certain his position, but I've already enjoyed more ultrasounds than most so I can't complain. :)

The biggest news to me is that he has dropped!! I did wonder because the places he moved and kicked felt different over the last couple days. However, I haven't been able to see a drop in my belly, I haven't been peeing more, and I don't feel any additional pressure down low so I didn't really expect it. But she felt an empty space at the top if my uterus, found the heart beat down low, and said I measured smaller this week because of the drop (measured at 34 weeks). I like hearing that my body is on track to hopefully do what it needs to do!

I also had the Group B strep test today and will get the results next week. She didn't do a cervical check (and I'm not sure if she typically does), and while I am of course curious it's probably just as well so I can't obsess over it. :) My doctor is out of town Sunday- Wednesday of next week so hopefully I don't go into labor in that window, but she said she didn't think I would.

I have started to feel a little crampy over the last 24 hours. Yesterday was a really busy day so maybe that's why, but I actually felt a tiny bit of pain during a few Braxton Hicks last night at church, and have felt a little crampy today. I told my doctor and she actually got excited and said that is my body getting ready for labor - yay!

I can't believe I am so close! This was the first of my weekly appointments!

{36 weeks}

36 weeks

36 weeks - my favorite dress that I am wearing most days

Size of baby: crenshaw melon (approx. 18.75" and 5.75 lbs.)

New symptoms this week: Well I thought I just had a small patch of stretch marks on my side. Turns out the whole underside of my belly is covered in them and I just couldn't see it! At least my view of my belly still looks clear, haha.
Maternity Clothes: It is nice and warm these days, and even if it's not very warm sometimes my body temperature seems to be running hot, so I am living in two maxi dresses. One is pictured above and I LOVE it and actually feel pretty in it. :) It is comfortable and non-maternity (I just got it a little bigger), so hopefully I can wear it post-baby, too.

Sleep: Not too bad this week. Only one night with a little acid reflux and another with a touch of insomnia. I do wake up very stiff and sore though.
What I'm Eating: My appetite feels relatively normal.
Cravings: Still loving ice cream but trying not to over indulge :)
Movement: I continue to feel him mostly under my right rib and left side. However, sometimes the movements feel like they are in a totally different place, and the hiccups seem to be all over! So I have no idea how he is positioned.

Special pregnancy moments: I am getting so excited to meet this little one! I always have heard pregnant women talk about being so ready to being done being pregnant, and in all the years I was trying to get pregnant I always thought I would want to be pregnant as long as possible to cherish every moment. I do feel like I have enjoyed being pregnant, but I think I am ready to be done just so I can meet this boy I have been so eagerly anticipating!!! (The end of the pregnancy discomforts will be nice, too, but that is very secondary).

The baby still feels very high and I keep waiting to "drop." Did anybody drop later with their first baby? (I know it's still not very "late" in terms of dropping...) I'm also rather paranoid about his position and hope he is not breech or facing the wrong way. I am really looking forward to my OB appointment on Monday - I think the 36 week one is a little more in depth and I might get an ultrasound!

Counting down: 1 week until full term, 4 weeks until my due date, and 6 weeks (at most) until this boy is in my arms!

The view

I can't believe this is what I see when I looked into the back seat of my car!!!

Car seat base is installed so now we are ready to bring this boy home in a few weeks! I wanted to do it this weekend since I saw online that the hospital had car seat checks once a month, but ironically nobody was there or we couldn't find them. But oh well, at least it's in and I will try to go to the fire department soon for our check.

{35 weeks}

35 weeks
Size of baby: honeydew melon (approx. 18" and 5.25 lbs.)

Total Weight Gain: +31 lbs
Continuing symptoms: slight nose congestion, back ache if I stand too long, acid reflux, aches, pains, and discomforts (especially while sleeping), infrequent but increasing Braxton hicks (less this week), charlie horse leg cramps at night, really tired, frequent urination, stretch marks, snoring
New symptoms this week: Skin tags! They may have been there before this week but I am suddenly noticing a few new skin tags. Moles too.
Maternity Clothes: Remember how I said I hate wearing a bra? I discovered the most wonderful type of bra this week - a bandeau! The one I got has soft cups so it gives some shape and keeps me from feeling too exposed. Plus, the weather has been warmer (and I have been running hotter, too) so this goes perfectly under tank tops - no bra straps AND it's like wearing an undershirt/ cami underneath without all the extra material. I also got a non-maternity maxi dress (in a larger size) that I LOVE and seriously want to want to wear everyday because it is so comfortable. :)

Sleep: Not too bad this week. Usually two, maybe three, trips to the bathroom per night and lots of tossing and turning. But only one night of acid reflux and insomnia, so I count it as a good week!
What I'm Eating: I tend to feel pretty hungry these days, but my stomach does not have much room and I feel too full really fast.
Cravings: Ice cream - doesn't  make me feel full! But I only had it once or twice this week...
Movement: He seemed to move a little less this week and/ or his movements were less dramatic. I bet he's running out of room in there!

Special pregnancy moments: 35/35!! (Thirty five weeks done, thirty-five days until my due date) When I say it like that I definitely feel like I am in the home stretch!

I had a great OB appointment this week. My doctor said if I went into labor now they would not try to stop it! However, I have had very few Braxton Hicks lately, which is funny after my hospital trip just before 32 weeks and the week following. I thought for sure I would just continue to have them in increasing amounts until I went into real labor, and now here I sit hardly having any and kind of wishing I were so that my body is starting to get ready for labor! Ha! Now I'm starting to think I'll be one of those people who goes past her due date. He hasn't dropped and I have no signs of impending labor...

The doctor also thinks he is still head down, but sometimes I still feel like his hiccups are up high, but then they are down low again (like last night). Not sure if he is still moving around or if I just don't know how to tell what is going on in there.

We finished our birth class series this week! It was actually a lot of fun to get to do that with my husband, and we agreed that it did make us feel more ready for labor. We also made a couple friends in the class. :)

My husband has been commenting lately how excited he is for our son's arrival. While we know one can never really be "ready" to have a child, we feel like we are ready for the next season of life to start! I also started training somebody to cover for me at work while I am on maternity leave...!

Counting down: 2 weeks until full term, 5 weeks until my due date, and 7 weeks (at most) until this boy is in my arms!

{34 weeks}

34 weeks
Size of baby: average cantaloupe (approx. 17.75" and 4.75 lbs.)

Total Weight Gain: +28 lbs
Continuing symptoms: slight nose congestion, back ache if I stand too long, acid reflux, aches, pains, and discomforts (especially while sleeping), infrequent but increasing Braxton hicks, charlie horse leg cramps at night, really tired, frequent urination, stretch mark, snoring
New symptoms this week: Not really a new symptom, but I just have to comment that my linea nigra now extends past my belly button and 3/4 of the way to my chest! Oh my?!?
Maternity Clothes: My maternity jeans feel tight. :( I wonder if I will even be able to wear them pretty soon!

Sleep: Continuing to be just ok but not terrible. A couple nights with insomnia this week, but there are enough decent nights that I feel pretty rested. Plus, I've just been laying around all week.
What I'm Eating: Nothing too special. Trying to get those veggies in :)
Cravings: Ice cream!
Movement: I really love these big third trimester rolls and movements!! This week a huge body part (I would guess his bottom part) jutted out really far one day - it was almost uncomfortable how hard he was pushing out! I have been a little obsessed with trying to figure out what position he is in based on movements and hiccups. However, once I think I have it figured out there is a movement somewhere else that totally throws off my guess....so either he is moving around to different positions still, or I just don't really know how to figure out what body part is what!

Special pregnancy moments: 34 weeks feels like another wonderful milestone - he is that much bigger and more mature, and I am that much closer to full term! The Braxton hicks were very, very mild this week, and I am not feeling too nervous about them or pre-term labor anymore. So thankful to be this far along!

And I am done with bedrest today - whoo-hoo!!! It wasn't too long to make me feel crazy, but I am thankful to be back to normal life!

Counting down: 3 weeks until full term, 6 weeks until my due date, and 8 weeks (at most) until this boy is in my arms!
