Decorating the nursery

I have been dreaming of decorating a nursery since before we even started trying to conceive. Needless to say after that many years of dreaming, I could hardly restrain myself to get started once our decision to adopt became official!! It seems like the adoption "norm" is to be low-key about the nursery, purchasing baby items, etc. in case the wait is long, but I just feel so ready to prepare for a baby. Plus, I am a planner by nature, and I would love to feel like a room is ready for a little one whenever we get the call!

I made 3 purchases for our baby's room last week. How crazy is that?!

Print from etsy seller thewheatfield - She is having a 20% sale in her store right now, too!

Another print from the Etsy seller thewheatfield - LOVE these colors!

3 yellow paper lanterns from World Market (they are slightly different than the one pictured, but this was all I could find on their website)

I'll keep you posted on the progress!

What a fun colorful nursery you will have!
I love the laterns!
And I don't think it is too early to plan . . . . you never know how quickly you will be matched/placed. And when that happens that last thing you want to be worried about is the nursery!
Plan on!

So fun! I love this neutral colorful theme you are going with!!

I'm ready to get everything set up (I'm a planner as well) but my husband is putting his foot down. So I've just been making a few purchases here and there. Mostly baby essentials (diapers, lotions, onesies, etc.)

Have fun, cant wait to see it when it's done!

How cute! I especially love the "You are my sunshine " print. My mom used to sing that to me when I was a baby :)

I currently have friends who are in the process of adopting (in the waiting stage) and they have gone full out with the nursery (and had a ton of fun in the process!). Their philosophy is, “If you build it, they will come.” :) Not a bad philosophy in my opinion! :D

I couldn't contain myself during the wait either! I had a lot of stuff purchased. All the big pieces and many small items. I waited on the bedding and some other coordinating items because I didn't want those items to be neutral. Some people cautioned me to wait and I thought...forget it. I need this done! I'm so glad I did it the way I did...we got a call about Ellie on Sunday and brought her home on Thursday. It's a fun way to spend the wait!

we decorated our nursery the day we found out we were officially approved and waiting. Good thing we did, we got the call on Monday K was ours and left Wednesday morning. I highly recommend having your bag/suitcase packed and ready to go with baby essentials if you are having to travel at all. Have fun with it!! I had fun walking around the stores shopping and registering with my DH and no bump getting in my way!

I would say enjoy decorating the nursery and take it slow too (meaning enjoy every purchase!), but seriously you are going to be a great mom. How do I know this? Because you are going to teach your child about the love of God and secondly you will love that child. Really that is all that matters! The nursery is starting off great!!!

I think you're smart to be decorating. I have a bloggy friend who became approved a few months ago, was identified as a match two weeks ago and then the day she and her husband were set to meet the birth mom (earlier this week) she went into labor at 35 weeks and gave birth to their son whom they're taking home tomorrow! Things can happen really fast. And they can happen more slowly, but it's fun to plan a nursery.

I don't think there is any right or wrong in terms of timing of buying stuff during an adoption. If it feels right, just do it! Love your purchases. :)

Yea!!!! I see that Jennifer already posted and I remember her getting ready for her miracle baby not long after she and B completed the adoption paperwork, etc...

Have fun finding just the right pieces for your baby :) And I'm so happy you've started preparing! I can't wait to meet your little one, as I know it won't be long.

And I love the prints! So shabby chic! Reminds me of Anthropologie, which I love!

Okay, wow. I also mentally planned the nursery long before we started trying (or started ART...). When the day came, my FIRST purchase was that You Are My Sunshine poster (along with two more of hers - Teach Love and Be Filled with Joy). And I also have a yellow (and pink and orange) Chinese lantern hanging in there. We have very similar tastes! Ikea has brightly-colored paper lanterns right now for a great price if you want other color options too.

I'm so glad that you are getting to do this, and that you have such a sense of happiness about it. Out of everyone in the world, you deserve it!
