SA results

I talked to the RE today and got the results for the SA. They came in as expected and correlated with the types of numbers we saw during out IUIs.

Count: 45 million (normal > 15 million)
Motility: 11% / forward progression 5% (normal > 40% / 25% forward progression)
Morphology: 8% (normal > 3%)**

Motility is our only issue, but it's pretty severe and motility is considered to be the most important measure by many doctors (unless the count is really low). However, the RE said he's seen pregnancies with numbers like that, and told me to use birth control whenever we've had all of our children - ha! That is so hard to imagine ever doing again ... and a little hard to believe, but it made me laugh. :)

In a way, though, it doesn't seem like our MFI is that severe...I don't know. But we've been TTC for over 30 cycles - which includes 4 IUI's and 3 IVF's - and have never seen a BFP. But I'm no fertile myrtle, either, I guess.

** I used he new SA guidelines released recently

I have seen some pretty miraculous pregnancies with worse numbers than that :) definitely could be worse.

My husband's sperm motility is also a factor for us, too. I'm sorry to see so many failed IUIs and IVFs on your TTC. Gosh, that must be so hard! You are so strong!!! I've only had one failed IUI, but that was so hard. We are now looking into IVF.

I'm now following your blog and looking forward to the day you get to post about your BFP!!!

Well hopefully IVF resolves the forward progression issue because that petri dish isn't THAT big :) Maybe all those vitamins will pay off too. said...

It looks like his motility has improved since the last two SA's??

Praying that this next round is THE round!!

and LOL to that birth control comment, seriously? seriously...

My DH's numbers were similar. Has your DH been checked for all his hormones? My DH had really low testosterone. He also saw a urologist that had a different measurement for varicoceles. After his second surgery we conceived. Feel free to email me for more info if you are interested.

My DH has horrible morphology - 0%. Everything else is bad too...your numbers look great! I am praying that this will be the month for you.

Bummer. Well at least everything else looks good. It is really hard to have hope for a surprise pregnancy when you have had so many failures. I know they happen... I hope that with your RE's help you will get that BFP soon!

Oh what we would have given for those SA results...we had slightly higher motility...and actually did get pregnant from an IUI once (sadly it ended in m/c :-()...but everything else sucked!!!! So..ICSI really is a girl's best friend and we have a healthy baby to prove it...And that was in combination with 40 year old eggs. I still say you have an angel of an RE who is working sooo hard to help you build your family....I just know your baby is coming soon.
I'm still here following and praying along with you.

I couldn't help but laugh at the birth control comment... Yeah, don't plan on ever using that again!

The SA doesn't look to be horrible and squashes all hope and as others have said, miracles happen all the time! :-) Probably a stupid question but is DH taking all the amino acid building supplements in addition to the multi vitamin?

And I don't recall if I've asked or not... Have you both looked into Vitamin D3?? :-)

Continuing to pray for your miracle...the body can do anything, as its "his" most perfect creation.

The numbers are not that severe, a few small dips but nothing that can't be taken care of with ICSI.

I know that's a lot breezily said then accepted. But it really is good news that the numbers are as strong as they are. Yay for something positive!
